President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of high-profile appointments to strengthen the governance and administration of Nigerian universities, including the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology in Tsafe, Zamfara State.
The appointments, announced on Tuesday, reflect the administration’s commitment to enhancing the leadership of tertiary institutions across the country.
In a statement issued by the Presidency, Hon. Chisom D. Obih was appointed to serve on the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University in Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.
Obih, a respected figure known for his contributions to public service, is expected to bring his expertise to the council, which oversees the university’s strategic direction and policy implementation.
Similarly, President Tinubu appointed Professor Ralph Akinfeleye, a renowned academic and media scholar, to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State. Akinfeleye’s appointment has been hailed as a strategic move to leverage his extensive experience in academia and communication to advance OAU’s legacy as one of Nigeria’s premier institutions.
In addition to these appointments, President Tinubu named key officers for the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology in Tsafe, Zamfara State, a specialized institution aimed at addressing Nigeria’s healthcare education needs.
Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai was appointed as the university’s Vice Chancellor, bringing his academic and administrative expertise to lead the institution’s growth.
Yakasai, a seasoned educator, is expected to drive the university’s mission to produce skilled healthcare professionals.
The President also appointed Mr. Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as the Registrar, tasked with overseeing administrative operations, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as the Bursar, responsible for financial management, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as the Librarian, charged with developing the university’s academic resources.
These appointments are seen as critical to establishing a strong foundation for the new institution.
The Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology in Tsafe is part of the Tinubu administration’s broader effort to expand access to specialized education and address Nigeria’s shortage of healthcare professionals.
The appointments are expected to bolster the university’s capacity to deliver on its mandate.
